The long awaited bathroom

OK. So there were a few initial teething problems but I am now happy to say that the bathroom is fully functional and I have had my first bubble bath….

Sourcing the PC items for the bathroom was the easy part. Finding the right trades people and coordinating it all proved to be the difficult bit. Eventually I found some great people and together with the professionals I have finally delivered a bathroom.

I stayed with the greys, neutrals and white tones, in keeping with the the look and feel of the rest of the house. This beautiful rustic timber tile was chosen as a feature (90 x 15). Every tile is unique and the feature walls look fabulous.

The other walls are plain matt white in a large 30 x 60 tile and the grey floor has extra large 60 x 60 concrete look tiles. The large tiles give the room a sense of space. The room looks bigger than it actually is. I have moved my office from this room to create the bathroom. Here are the before and after photos.

With the installation of an internal cavity sliding door in the wall there are now two entrances into this room. One from the main bedroom and one from the hall. This multi purpose room now is both an ensuite to the main bedroom and the main bathroom. The shaving cabinet has been recessed into a purpose built panel and has been finished with an OSRAM flexible strip light at the base. There are two simple down lights in the ceiling.

As always, every new item is tested and approved by the one and only – Muffin. And she approves!

Never Give up!

I can’t believe that summer (and Christmas) has been and gone and not a word has been written in my blog. I had to take a step back and just breathe. I absolutely made the most out of this beautiful location, going to the beach, riding my bike and enjoying the company of visitors. My renovation is challenging. My renovation is progressing. Stick with plan – I keep reminding myself. If I think about the fact that it is almost a year since I moved to Long Jetty I start to question whether I have done much at all! But when my friends come to visit and see my little house after not seeing it for a while I am overwhelmed with all the words of encouragement and affirmation. My supporters make me feel good. I quickly went through the last few posts to see where I was up to with my blog. It’s terrible that I haven’t posted anything lately, however today is the day that I begin again. I have so much to say about the renovation. I have been working mainly on the inside of the house. Still working from the front, I have switched the original lounge room with the main bedroom so now the lounge has the french doors opening out onto the deck and everyone who comes here can enjoy this space. I have completed the wider doorway from the hall, and included two window cutouts in the walls. This has created a much more open feel to the space. I have painted the walls (in NEW LOOK Rumour), and am finishing off the doors and trims in DULUX White on White.

One of the biggest jobs I have undertaken was sanding the floors in both the front rooms and the hallway. I hired a sanding machine and edger from Long Jetty Hire and did it all myself. I hunted down some quality floor paint. Two undercoats of Zinsser, followed by two coats of Feast and Watson Floor Paint in Natural White. It looks amazing! This had all taken place before my health interruption back in November.

The Christmas Tree.

The Christmas Tree.

After I got back on my feet I began with the small sunroom off the main bedroom. It has been stripped and relined. I have made a walk in robe to one side, and have now set up my office on the other side. I love this room. It feels so nice to sit at my computer with the beautiful North Easterly breeze coming in through the window. The room is fresh and what was formerly the office is now in the process of becoming the new bathroom. I promise some photos in the next post.

I guess I really have achieved a lot. When I was resting during December I made a beanbag for the lounge room. With the help of my dad I made an old fashioned swing for the tree in the backyard. I also bought a small side table for $10 at the bid jungle which I painted to match my white furniture, and more recently I retrieved two old lounge chairs from a kerbside cleanup two doors up the street. More about these projects in the next post……..along with the much anticipated bathroom!

It’s good to be back on track x
