Well hello there!
I have created this blog, ‘Whispers from the Jetty’ as an ongoing diary to record my personal journey of discovery, adventure and my attempt to fulfil a passion. I am very new to the ‘blog’ thingy and it may take me some time to get this set up the way I would like to! My journey is about letting go, believing in yourself and following your dreams. The first thing I need to let go of is the need for perfection. I would never had started this blog if I remained hell bent on getting it perfect first, (which is the usual excuse as to why I don’t do the things I want to do!) so here it is…very raw…very inexperienced, a lot clumsy, but never-the-less …here it is.
My new home is located in Long Jetty NSW, and I am nestled between the lake and the ocean – in others words surrounded by water. There is something about being close to the water. It is relaxing to say the least, but it’s more than that. I can’t quite find the words. I need more time to get to know what it is I am discovering. My adventure primarily is about renovating a house. The seed to this adventure was planted last October, when I finally admitted out loud that this is what I have to do and NOW is the time to do it! And so it begins. I bought a house. A little old fibro house in need of my attention.
After an unusual exchange of circumstances, the property finally settled. I packed up my life into a large truck, with tears in my eyes said goodbye to my much loved piano (it sadly wasn’t going to fit in the house) and headed up the coast with my cat called “Muffin”.
My first thoughts when the truck arrived at the house was that the truck was bigger than the house!!! I had fears of having to leave half my belongings out on the street! Thankfully, and to my surprise, everything fitted in nicely. Also to my surprise, my things really suit this little house. I will be doing a photographic update of my progress along the way, with some interesting little stories about the people I meet, and the Long Jetty location and lifestyle.
It sounds like a wonderful journey, however at the same time my heart is torn. I have been a single mother of my daughter Sophie for almost 18 years. Sophie finished her HSC last year and is now attending Sydney University. The commute was not an option for her. Sophie has decided to stay living in Sydney while she attends Uni. She is very much a city girl at heart. I can see her living in New York or London, maybe Paris one day.
But for now, I am determined to make our little place by the water a place that she will call home – even if it is just on the odd weekend here and there. Our little place will be somewhere she will be wanting to visit often, to bring her friends and spend time with me, at the the beach or hanging at the local cafe’s.
Dream on you might say….I guess we will see….

Hi Mandy (?)
What a delightful blog and story, congratulations.
I have recently opened a retail store, The Raw Deal, at Pacific/Entrance Road and intend to use a bunch of wall space to (try and) display a pictorial history of Long Jetty. Having seen a few of your images it occurs to me that possibly you might have some contemporary that I could purloin. I am slowly collating some historical images, although it all seems to be about the Jetty and foreshore, and I am more interested in the daily lives of folk e.g. High Street; there were 4 banks at some point (can you believe). Anyway, just thought I’d touch base with someone who loves the living of life and is engaged with their community.
Best regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
I have already met you once or twice as I bought some ingredients to make my own muesli!
I will pop by again soon. Thank you for your lovely words about my blog!
Happy to share my photos and maybe even take something special for you.
